G63 Brotherhood

Growing up, you always want to see your siblings do well in life. When you strive for greatness within yourself, that usually motivates you and motivates your sibling as well. Well, that’s the case with this family. Having a friendly rivalry to push each other to work hard to live a life that people dream of. Push each other enough to buy a $185,000 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG as the car that they drive daily.

So there are some pretty crazy stories with these G-Wagons but before I tell you the hectic stories, let me just rant about the G-Wagons in general.

I HATED THEM! The previous shape, 2018 models and older, I hated. I didn’t like anything about them, the way they looked, they haven’t changed the exterior for about 25 years, they kind of just got bigger. I didn’t like the interior, they drove terribly, I felt like I was going to tip over every turn I took. They were made and advertised as off-road vehicles, but I promise you, only about 1% of G-Wagon owners off-road their G-Wagon. As a whole, it wasn’t that great of a car, I think they were what I call Flexmobiles. BUT… the new one… THE NEW ONE… is WAYYYYY better and is what I expected the G-Wagon to be. It has a beautiful interior, drives WAY better, drives much smoother and a lot less wobbly, and finally,… FINALLY… they changed the exterior to look much more modern and sleek with keeping the iconic G-Wagon look.

Ok… rant over.

Now for the hectic story, I will try to keep this a short as possible but there’s a lot going on. So let's start with the Arabian Gray G63. There was a whole plan for this G-Wagon but things took a turn. He ordered a Brabus Widestar body kit and Vossen rims to do a build on it. At the time that I am writing this story, the owner does not own this G63 anymore, his mom does. Mom used to drive a Range Rover but drove this G63 and fell in love. Being the great son that he is, he let his mom drive his G-wagon, and it got to a point where he was never able to drive it because she always had it. So, he just sold it to his mom, now it’s hers. He did that knowing that there is a 12-16 month wait to get a new G63, so he placed another order for a China Blue G63 that would be delivered in Q1 of 2022. There was news not long ago from Mercedes say that they were having supply chain issues with their AMG V8 engine, which means that there will be no Mercedes V8s produced for 2022, aka, no G63s in 2022. Which means he lost his China Blue build. That sucks, not only having your build canceled but also having bought a Widestar kit (which let me tell you is not cheap) and 24-inch Vossen rims, and not having a car to put them on sucks even more. Soon, the problem was solved by the owner going out and buying a used one that was on the market, the consequence, used G63s are going for about $10,000-$15,000 over the new MSRP. So instead of paying $185,000 for a new one, you have to pay $190,000-$200,000 for a used one. In some cases, 2021models going for prices as crazy as $300,000 dependent upon spec. Crazy right?

Now the Designó black Magno G63. So the past year, the car market has been wild. So wild in fact that there was almost a lawsuit with the dealer for this car. At the time that this car was purchased, new 2021 G63 AMGs were going for about $25,000-$40,000 over sticker. Long story short, the dealer promised to give him his allocation for MSRP which was $185,000. The car took 2 years to be built and delivered, then when the car came from the factory, they first did not allow him to purchase the vehicle, they only offered him lease options. The owner threatened that he would get his lawyers involved, so they then offered him financing options but tried to be sneaky and work in the $25,000 premium into his warranty payments and interest rate. The owner got his lawyers involved and ended up getting the car for the intended MSRP. Also, I forgot to mention that the dealer forgot to include options that the owner PAID for that were on the build sheet, so the G63 came without some options that the owner paid for, so he had to go to a third party shop to get those things done. So that was a crazy situation but, with all that in the past, he is happy with it now.

Well, I hope you followed me on this one. I know there was a lot going on. But, I hope you enjoy the photos.
