I want to start by saying this was probably the most fun project I have ever done. It was also the project that took the longest to edit. If I had to say, I probably took about 40 hours to edit these. It took that long because this was the first project I used HDR and I put every photo through photoshop which took FOREVERRRRR… but the results, well I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m happy. I’m also going say, this is going to be a long one, just so you know. Now, let’s get on to the car.

This car belongs to a good friend of mine, Chris. Chris and I went to the same high school and I consider him family along with his entire family. I would do anything for family, well as long as it’s in my power. I remember the day my friend and I were casually talking about cars and we were saying what our favorite cars are. I told him that my favorite car right now is the McLaren 720s. (I will go into detail in a little, but I can talk about this car all day) He looked at me and said, “you’re lying, because that is mine too!!” about a month and a half goes by and I get a text that says, “guess what car I just bought?” HE BOUGHT A 720S!!!!! Honestly, I just wanted to drive to his place and steal his keys.

We were talking for a little and he was telling about all the modifications he wants to do to the car. A wrap, rims, tints, exhaust, underglow, and possibly a sound system because supercars usually have garbage sound systems. I couldn’t be happier to hear all of this. He told me the rims that he wanted he couldn’t find. So, me being the person I am, I thought, “Is this a challenge?” and tried to find the rims. He wanted the rims from the N-Largo body kit. The N-Largo is a wide body kit made by Novitec and they are super limited. For the McLaren 720s, I believe they made only 15 kits. Price wise, I don’t know how much the body kit is but usually insane body kits like these are more expensive than the car. The problem with all of this is that he really wanted the wheels from the kit, but you had to buy the entire body kit to get the wheels. So, what did I do? I reached out to Vossen, the company that collaborated with Novitec to create the wheels.

You still with me? I know it’s a lot…

I was put in contact with Jereme. Jereme is the Account Manager at Vossen and he was so helpful. I told him I was looking for the MC2 wheels (what the body kit wheels are called) and he told me that those wheels are specifically designed for the wide body kit and won’t fit a regular 720s BUT, we do offer the MC3 wheel which is the same wheel but just for regular fitment. I saw them on the website, but it said coming soon, so to me that meant those aren’t available. Jereme then proceeded to say, “I have a set of black MC3 wheels ready to ship if you want them. I don’t think I have called anyone faster in my life. I called Chris and was like, BOOM, got them, do you want them. I next thing I knew, I had a pair of McLaren aftermarket wheels arrive to my house. Jereme told me to send him photos of the car when it was finished so they can possibly use them for something and it only took us 7 months to do a shoot, pretty short turnaround time if you ask me lol.

Chris told me that he was wrapping the car and getting the wheels put on at the same time and will let me know when it’s done so I can see the car. About a week later I get a call from Chris and he says, “come outside.” I look out my window and there was this sinister matte black spaceship outside of my house. I run down the stairs and outside to see my dream car. When I get outside, I’m speechless, and almost shed a tear. We are causing commotion on my block, people that are driving by are slowing down to see the car, my neighbors are coming outside to take pictures, everyone is loving the car. Then, when I didn’t think things couldn’t get any better, Chris throws me the keys and says, “you think I came all this way and did all of this to the car just so you can look at it? No, get in, you’re driving it.” Wait what? … Who?... (I start to look around to see if there was someone behind me that he was talking to) Me? I was not expecting him to let me drive this car. I get in the car and start to drive. It wasn’t a long drive, maybe 8 minutes, but I drove the car 8 minutes longer than I thought I would have. I start to get this feeling of nervousness and my adrenaline is pumping. I get on to the highway and I get a feeling that I don’t think I have experienced before, pure happiness, still a lot of adrenaline, but very very happy. I wanted to see just how fast this car was, so I gave the car about 35 percent throttle and I’m not lying when I say this, but we went from 55 mph to about 135 mph in about 4 seconds. Just to put that into perspective for you, it took you longer to read this sentence than it did for me to get to 135 mph. I was too scared to floor it after that. But besides that, it was a Zen moment for me, not the 135 mph part, but everything else. Till this day I don’t really know how to describe it.

2 more things, then I’m done, I promise. Number 1, I’m going to tell you why this car is my favorite car right now. The main reason is because the car is perfect in every way. This is the fastest car you can buy for under 1 million dollars, it looks so so good and like nothing else, it drives and handles amazingly. Also, this car is shaped the way it is for a reason, aerodynamics, and that’s what makes it so fast. Every bodyline has a function. In this price range, I honestly don’t know why anyone would buy anything else. There are only 2 downsides to this car, McLarens are notorious for not being the best built cars, and McLarens don’t sound great, but that’s what an aftermarket exhaust is for. Also, a lot of people say that McLarens are unreliable, I don’t own one so I can’t answer that one. People also say the reason why they didn’t like this car is because it is too perfect, yes you heard that correctly. They say the car doesn’t have a personality because it does everything perfectly, like a robot. But I am just in love with this car. If I won the lottery, I wouldn’t buy this car. Yes, wouldn’t… I would buy the 765LT lol. But I still love it to death, and it puts the biggest smile on my face.

Ok, my final thing. The last thing I want to say is make sure you have friends like this around you. No, I’m not talking about having rich friends so that you can drive their cars. I’m talking about having friends that love to put a smile on your face or do things that are priceless to you and will stick with you for the rest of your life. Friends that look out for you. Chris didn’t have to let me drive, but he knew that coming to surprise me would mean more to me than anything else. He gave me the opportunity to do something that I’m willing to bet less than 5 percent of the people on this earth will never get a chance to do, and that means the world to me. I honestly can’t thank him enough, because to me, it was more than just driving my dream car because you can’t put a price on happiness. Thank you, thank you, thank you, one million times over.
